Product Features
  • Afcona-5054 helps to reduce interfacial tension between hydrophilic pigments/extenders and the binder, forming a lattice structure with the pigments at the same time. It stabilizes pigment through electrical charge repulsion forces.
  • Afcona – 5054 has the following properties:
    • Afcona – 5054 offers very wide compatibility with almost all resins systems. It is especially suitable for non-polar to medium-polar binder systems, i.e. air-drying alkyd resins, chlorinated polymers, alkyd/amino resin combinations, and epoxies.
    • Afcona – 5054 is mainly used in primers and decorative paints. It is also widely used in marine and heavy duty paints.
    • Afcona-5054 is ideal for dispersing organophilic Bentonites, because it reduces dispersion time, improves the storage stability of the final paste, and gives a thixotropic, easily processed paste product.
    • Compared to Afcona – 5044, Afcona – 5054 has more polar groups and a higher molecular weight, giving it better anti- settling properties than Afcona – 5044.
    • Afcona-5054 may cause discoloration in nitrocellulose varnishes and cause gelling in certain UPE resin.

Note: Afcona – 5054 will become slightly hazy at temperatures below 5° C. This will not influence the performance of the product.
